Law of the Sea

The Law of the Sea course provides a comprehensive analysis of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea from a legal and policy perspective. It sets the historical development of the law of the sea; a framework for understanding the Law of the Sea Convention; baselines under the Convention; maritime zones under the jurisdiction of the coastal state; the high seas; the deep seabed; maritime boundary delimitation; Australian maritime boundary issues; protection of the marine environment under the Law of the Sea Convention; the legal regime for managing marine resources in the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf; the legal regime for managing marine living resources on the high seas; practical aspects of the continental shelf; emerging issues; and dispute settlement under the Law of the Sea Convention.
