Marine Resources, Industry and Environment Programme
The Marine Resources, Industry and Environment research programme investigates legal and policy measures and strategies for managing the marine environment, its resources, uses of the oceans for commercial and other purposes and the implications of regulatory measures for maritime industries. It seeks to inform and influence policy-making with the aim of enhancing Australian and international legal and policy frameworks to ensure the sustainable use and protection of the region's marine resources.
Research projects examine the interface between measures designed to protect marine resources (i.e. Marine Conservation) and those aimed at enabling the use of those resources (i.e. Marine Resources) and the oceans by industry and other users (i.e. Maritime Industries). The research programme covers all uses of marine resources including transportation, with special emphasis upon seabed resource use (i.e. Sea Bed Mining Regulation), fishing regulation and management, and the farming of living aquatic resources (i.e. Fisheries and Mariculture).
