Lieutenant Commander James Crouch is a meteorology and oceanography specialist in the Royal Australian Navy, currently posted as Assistant Director Policy (Geospatial) in Canberra. Jim is a 2005 Graduate of the Indonesian Navy Command and Staff College (Seskoal), his time in Indonesia including a deployment to Banda Aceh as a translator in January 2005 as part of OPERATION SUMATRA ASSIST. Previous postings have included time at the Australian Hydrographic Office, Naval Air Station Nowra and Maritime Headquarters, with seagoing experience including guided missile destroyers and patrol boats. Jim has a BSc in Oceanography, a GradDip in Meteorology, an MSc in Physical Oceanography, a Diploma in Leadership and Management and an AdvDip in Indonesian Language.
Jim's PhD thesis is on “The Relationship between National Sovereignty and Space-based Surveillance with particular regard to Maritime Security in Southeast Asia .”
