Bill spent 22 years at sea as a deck officer trading internationally on a variety of ship types, the last 4 years in command of container/passenger ships trading between Australia, Japan and Korea.
He joined the Port Kembla Port Corporation in 1989 resigning in 2004 as the General Manager Marine and Port Operations & Harbour Master.
During this time he chaired the Australian Standards Committee on Dangerous Goods in Port Areas, the Australian Port Operations and Technical Committee and was a Vice President of the International Harbour Masters' Association.
Since leaving the Port Corporation, Bill has been busy consulting to a range of private companies and government departments primarily in the area of implementing the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code and on the development and implementation of new ports.
In 2005-08 he managed the complete operational development of a new port in southern New Caledonia including general port operations, stevedoring, towage, mooring/unmooring, tank farm and conveyor operations, on site trucking operations, port security, safety, administration and procedures.
He is currently engaged in the development and operation of a port and associated specialist offshore marine operations for a new iron ore port that is to be constructed in WA’s Pilbara region and operational in late 2009.
Bill is a member of the Royal Australian Navy Reserve holding the rank of Captain.
He has two Graduate Diplomas in Business from the Australian Maritime College and completed his Masters in Maritime Studies at the Centre for Maritime Policy in 2004.
