David commanded the Royal Australian Navy from July 1999 to July 2002 in what was a very interesting period in the history of the Navy.
During his Navy career of 36 years David had Vietnam service as well as extensive sea experience; including foreign exchange with the Royal Navy and command of the frigate HMAS Derwent and destroyer HMAS Brisbane. He has had senior level responsibilities for development of Navy and Defence policy, all Australian Defence Force operational capability requirements, project management and procurement of complex command and control and intelligence information systems, as well as the education and training of officers in advanced staff development programs.
Since leaving the Navy he has formed his own consulting business and accepted appointments as a non executive Director. He assists a number of not for profit activities.
David has earned an Executive MBA from Monash University and completed several advanced Australian and international leadership and management programs. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, and a Visiting Fellow at University of NSW University College Business School (Australian Defence Force Academy).
